1. Speed restrictions

Announcement of speed restriction

Announces a speed restriction. (indication in km/h x 0.1)

Specific indication for self-propelled units ()

The board below concerns only railcars and multiple units.
Beginning of slowdown zone (Lassúmenet eleje jelző)

Indicates the beginning of a restricted speed section.

Specific indication for self-propelled units ()

The board below concerns only railcars and multiple units.
End of slowdown zone (Lassúmenet vége jelző)

Allows trains to resume normal speed.

2. Shunting

Limit of shunting (Tolatási határjelző)

Limit not to pass in shunting movement.
Dead-end (Ütközőbak távolságára figyelmeztető jel)

The train is directed to a dead-end track.
Distance to the buffer is indicated in metres.
End of track
(Vágányzáró-jelző)

This board locates the end of a track. It is set on buffers.


3. Track works

Approach marker (Munkaterület fedezése a nyílt pályán)

This board announces a zone of track works.


4. Electric traction

A) Electric sectioning

'Cut current' or 'Lower pantograph' – announcement
(Figyelem!)

This board announces a neutral zone at a specified distance.
'Cut current' – beginning
(Főmegszakítót ki!)

This board shows the beginning of a neutral zone.
It must be passed with the main breaker off.

'Cut current' – end
(Főmegszakítót be!)

This board shows the end of a neutral zone.

B) Electric sectioning with phase shifting

'Lower pantograph' – beginning
(Áramszedőt le!)

This board shows the beginning of a neutral zone before different phase zone. It must be crossed with the main breaker off and the pantograph lowered.
'Lower pantograph' – end
(Áramszedőt fel!)

This board shows the end of a neutral zone before different phase zone. It is usually accompanied by the indication of the following type of current.

C) Additional boards related to electric movements

End of catenary
(Villamos mozdony állj!)

This board shows the end of electrified track sections.
The board above can have a particular form : the blue part points out the direction in which electric traction ends, in the case of a points (switch) which can direct to a non-electtrified track. The blue part can be on the upper part or on the left or the right side of the board.


5. Level crossing

Level crossing announcement

Announces a level crossing.

This board announces an automatic level crossing.
It also locates the contact point for closing the level crossing.

This board commands to whistle / horn.

Approach signal
(Útsorompót ellenőrző jelző)

LC not secure

The announced
crossing is open.

If this aspect does not change when a train is approaching, the train must proceed on sight until passed the crossing.
LC secure

The crossing has been closed by the approaching train.


6. Approach and stop

Halt location approach

This board announces a station.

Station approach (deferred stop)
(Fékút eleje-jelző)

This board announces a station with an entrance signal which can be cleared only with the Proceed On Sight aspect. It commands a deferred stop.
Announcer signal preceding an entrance signal
(Bejárati jelzőre figyelmeztető jel)

This board is associated to the announcer signal which precedes a station entrace signal.
    or    Spacing signal preceding an entrance signal
(Külön előjelzővel nem rendelkező fény bejárati jelzőre
figyelmeztető jel.)


This board is associated to the spacing signal which precedes a station entrace signal.
Head of train / Stop
(Megállás-helye jelző)

1. In a station, this board locates the place of halt of the trains.
2. Outside stations, this board commands to stop, then to proceed if no hindrance.
